Children's Cleanings & Exams in Weatherford

A mother and her child brushing their teeth togetherRegular dental checkups every six months are the key to keeping your child’s smile healthy for life. At Lone Star Smiles for Kids, Dr. Brant Boling and our team provide gentle, thorough dental cleanings and exams for children of all ages. From their first tooth to their teenage years, we help kids feel good about going to the dentist and teach them how to care for their smiles.

Start Healthy Smiles Early

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry says children should visit the dentist by age one or within six months of getting their first tooth. Why so early? Baby teeth are important! Checking them as your child grows helps keep them healthy until they fall out naturally.

These early visits also help your child get comfortable with the dentist. Our team is great at talking to kids in a way they understand, and we make dental visits fun. We care about your child’s health and happiness as much as you do and work hard to ensure they feel safe and relaxed with us.

Benefits of Children's Dental Exams and Cleanings

Bringing your child for routine checkups at Lone Star Smiles for Kids every six months is about more than cleaning their teeth. These appointments offer many benefits that help your child enjoy a lifetime of happy, healthy smiles.
Prevent Cavities and Gum Disease
Regular cleanings remove plaque and tartar that brushing alone can't. Combined with thorough exams, these visits help stop tooth decay and gum problems before they start, keeping your child's smile healthy and strong.
Build Confidence at the Dentist
Each positive experience helps your child feel more comfortable with dental care. We explain procedures in kid-friendly terms, helping children overcome any nervousness and actually look forward to visits.
Encourage Positive Dental Habits
Regular dental visits reinforce the importance of good oral health habits. When children learn proper hygiene habits from an early age, they're more likely to maintain them into adulthood.
Reduce the Need for Costly Treatment
Routine checkups catch dental issues when they’re small and easier to treat. This approach helps avoid the need for more extensive and costly procedures and helps reduce painful emergencies.

Dental Care for Every Age

A child in a cowboy outfit walking out of a saloonFirst Visits (Ages 1 to 3)

Dental exams for toddlers are quick and gentle. We count their teeth, let them ride in the dental chair, and show them our tools to make the visit fun. Dr. Boling checks their baby teeth and looks for cavities, especially around the gums, where bottles or sippy cups can cause problems. He'll also check to be sure your child's jaw and bite are developing properly.

Parents play a big role at these visits! We’ll teach you and your child how to clean and keep tiny teeth healthy at home. Dr. Boling will also answer your questions about teething, bottle feeding, thumb-sucking, and how food and drinks affect your child’s teeth.

Growing Smiles (Ages 4 to 7)

At this age, we start more in-depth exams and cleanings. We explain what we're doing so kids can easily understand and don't feel overwhelmed. Our hygienist will continue to educate your child on the importance of oral hygiene and show them how to brush and floss properly. Dr. Boling carefully monitors how baby teeth are falling out and adult teeth are coming in. He checks for cavities between teeth and may recommend fluoride treatments or sealants to protect your child's teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your child’s first dental visit should happen by their first birthday. Taking children to the dentist early is important for cavity prevention and intervening in other dental issues before they become more severe. A child’s baby teeth are essential for their development. They play a role in eating, talking, and growing healthy permanent teeth.

What to Expect at Your Child’s First Dental Visit

Your child’s first dental appointment is as much about getting them comfortable with the dentist as anything. You’ll also learn about how to help your child maintain their oral health as they grow, and what to watch out for.

It’s essential to find a child-friendly dentist who has experience working with children and knows how to make them feel at ease. Early, positive dental visits are key to establishing a solid foundation for lifelong oral health.

During this first visit, the dentist will:

  • Introduce themself and get to know your child.
  • Show your child the dental tools.
  • Very gently examine your child’s mouth and gums.
  • Do a light cleaning.
  • Offer education about cavity prevention, brushing, flossing, and a healthy diet that’s good for your child’s teeth.

Depending on your child’s age, you can talk to them at home about what’s going to happen at the dentist. Be sure to use positive language. You might even show them a book or video for kids about going to the dentist to make it feel familiar.

At Lonestar Smiles for Kids, we love working with children and would be happy to meet yours. Our caring team is dedicated to making your child’s first dental visit a positive experience. Consider scheduling an appointment to put your child on the path to oral health!
